  • The Original Series

    The Original Series

The Original Series represents the four models with four wood combinations that George has designed and built over his 40 years of guitar making. Unlike the 35 and 50 series’, each Original Series model has its own two-number model designation: the 22, the 23, the 25 and the 32. The Original series features understated aesthetic appointments; a seven-piece wood rosette, single piece wood binding on the back, single piece binding and three-piece purfling on the top, rosewood front-head facing and an ebony bound ebony fingerboard.

    The 35 Series

    The 35 Series

The 35 Series is comprised of a wider range of models that are delineated by their wood combination. There are 8 woods available for the back and sides and 5 for the top, however, no one back and sides wood is available with all of the top woods, and only one combination (Indian Rosewood/Sitka Spruce) is available in all three body sizes.

    The 50 Series

    The 50 Series

The 50 series can be described as the Lowden Custom Shop. With the 50 Series, customers have the opportunity to choose any combination of woods in any body size as well as having the choice of tone woods not available in the 35 Series such as African Blackwood and Brazilian Rosewood. Moreover, the woods that are used are Master Grade tone woods; the best of the best tone woods available anywhere chosen for their exceptional tonal and visual properties.

  • The Jazz Collection

    The Jazz Collection

Based on both the ’S’ model, the Jazz model is a nylon string ‘cross-over’ model that is designed to be used for a variety of playing styles. The neck is wide enough to accommodate the nylon strings and yet the ebony fingerboard is cambered to allow easy playing for steel string players. The voicing of the guitar allows for a great acoustic response while not being overly lively and overpowering while amplified. All Jazz models also come with a Fishmann Matrix Infinity pickup system as standard.

    The Baritone

    The Baritone

The Baritone model is based upon the O size but with a longer scale length (700mm rather than 650mm), and a deeper body (130mm rather than 125mm). These changes are to enhance the tonal characteristics of a guitar detuned to C or B.

    The S-35M

The S-35M is currently our only guitar model which comes with a hardwood soundboard as standard.  This particular tone wood, Fiddleback Mahogany, is warm and responsive through a mild and easy grain structure.  Complemented with Robson hand made open gear tuners, the S-35M is beautiful looking and beautifully responsive.

    The Stage Edition

    The Stage Edition

For many years, we made a model known as the LSE II which proved very popular and today the successor to that model is available in the form of the 32 SE. The Stage Edition (32 SE) is designed to be played on stage and primarily as an amplified rather than purely acoustic instrument.

  • Richard Thompson

    Richard Thompson

At Lowden we only consider a signature model for someone who has played our guitars consistently for a long time, Richard has been playing Lowden guitars for many many years and we are honored to introduce this model! Richard chose this wood combination and other specifications because of the really full-bodied loud and clear response of Ziricote and cedar.

    Alex De Grassi

    Alex De Grassi

It was back in the early eighties that Alex de Grassi first started playing Lowden guitars and our relationship has grown through various new guitars since then. I’ve designed this new signature model for Alex with the aim of matching his wish list in terms of playability ( slightly wider neck with comfortable profile, and a deeper cutaway for the upper registers) The tone is slightly “jazzy” - warm and full with slightly accentuated upper mids.

    Pierre Bensusan

George is delighted to have worked with Pierre designing this signature model, which is in many ways a celebration of a relationship which has remained for four decades.

    Pierre Bensusan 'Old Lady'

    Pierre Bensusan 'Old Lady'

With our 40th anniversaries coinciding, Pierre Bensusan and Lowden thought it would be an ideal time to reminisce. What better way to do that than to re-introduce the guitar George built for Pierre in 1978! Over the years, his original '78 Lowden became affectionately known as his 'Old Lady'. Many people love the unique voice of that guitar and so here it is, minus the many years of performing and practice that Pierre gave it.

    Thomas Leeb

Austrian guitarist Thomas Leeb first began to play Lowden guitars in the mid nineties while working closely with his good friend and mentor Eric Roche. Thomas has been playing Lowden guitars since then and it gave George great pleasure to design the Thomas Leeb Signature model.

    Paul Brady

    Paul Brady

The new Paul Brady Signature Model from Lowden celebrates the exclusive connection between these two great Irish names which has existed since the early nineties. Paul Brady's songs have been widely covered by the great and the good on both sides of the Atlantic, Among his most popular songs are "Crazy Dreams", "Nothing but the Same Old Story", "The Island", "Night Hunting" (covered by Santana), and "Steel Claw" and "Paradise is Here"(covered by Tina Turner). He collaborated with a number of other established musicians including Richard Thompson & Bonnie Raitt, who did a duet with Brady on his 1991 LP Trick or Treat. A couple of Brady songs also appeared on Raitt's album Luck of the Draw, including the title track.

    Jon Gomm

    Jon Gomm

Jon says: "My Hybrid Top signature model is the most epic sounding guitar I've ever heard. Melodies are breathtakingly clear, the bass is huge and it all just fires out of the guitar like a rocket. The spine-tingling harmonics and rich warm midrange are gorgeous. Holding this guitar, the potential musical power feels literally awe inspiring, I feel like King Arthur holding Excalibur for the first time. We did it!"  Jon Gomm got to know George and our team when Wilma, his beloved 032C, needed major surgery - a new fingerboard after countless refrets. The whole Lowden crew went to Jon’s show in Belfast, and so the mutual respect between master luthier and master musician was formed.

  • The Wee Lowden

    The Wee Lowden

The Wee Lowden was designed by George at the request of Gary Lightbody as a gift for Ed Sheeran. It is designed to be compact with a 610 mm scale length, and a soundbox that is 40 mm narrower and 5 mm shallower then the S model. However, the internal bracing and the choice of woods are such that the bass response is increased as much as possible to avoid the 'boxy' sound that most small guitars have. The Wee Lowden is currently available as standard in two configurations; the Wee Lowden 25 and the Wee Lowden 35.

    20,000 - Genesis

    20,000 - Genesis

Shortly after we celebrated our 40th anniversary, we realised that we would soon be reaching guitar number twenty thousand. To celebrate reaching this milestone I wanted to do something really special. I have called the guitar 'Genesis' for the beginning of things, because for number twenty thousand I wanted to go back to the beginning of things for us as Lowden Guitars.

    40th Anniversary

    40th Anniversary

To celebrate 40 years of the Lowden Guitar in 2014, the 40th Anniversary Limited Edition Option was made available as an upgrade to any guitar in the Lowden range. This provided the opportunity for our customers to play an important role in choosing the unique family of hand built Lowden instruments built in celebration of the anniversary year. George Lowden Guitars is a company of luthiers founded and led by a working luthier, and on these limited guitars George Lowden has personally chosen all woods and bracing sets, voiced and hand-carved the dolphin profile and closed the soundbox.
